Classes & Tours

Sea Kayaking has undergone a major boom in popularity and has the reputation of being a user friendly sport that is easy to get into. It is — but not without its share of problems, generally due to a lack of preparation and/or knowledge about the sport. My goal is to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to boat safely and enjoy the aquatic environment.

All classes and tours are kept small for a more personalized, unique and safe experience.

Intro to Kayaking
Looking to get your feet wet and see if kayaking is for you? Then sign up for a fun and informational three hour adventure! This laid back workshop offers the best of both worlds; on-land and on-water instruction combined with a mini-tour of local waters.

Designed for beginners with recreational or touring kayaks, this course covers basics such as equipment and terminology, proper cockpit entries and exits, basic strokes, safety and other fundamentals. (To gain more skills I recommend signing up for the Kayaking 101 Wet class.)

Kayaking 101 WET

Ready to think outside the boat? Then let's have fun and GET WET! Knowing how to deal with an unexpected capsize is fundamental to a kayaker's safety. This is a very thorough, comprehensive and interactive course so plan on learning lots and getting wet! We'll spend a fair amount of time on making your strokes and maneuvers in the kayak smooth, effortless and fluid. Grace and style on the H2O - that's our goal! An efficient forward stroke, turning strokes, reverse strokes, braces, and moving the boat laterally will all be covered. The last hour will be spent in and out of the water as we practice getting back in the kayak after that “out of boat experience!” WETSUITS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Fitness Paddling for mortals

Kayaking is a relatively user-friendly sport and you don’t have to be a buff athlete to enjoy it. However, the single biggest misconception about paddling is that it’s an “arms only” exercise. The fastest, most efficient kayakers use all their muscles, not just their arms to propel their kayaks forward with graceful stamina and power. Kayak-specific strength training aids in developing muscle coordination, balance and body awareness. It also helps to build endurance needed for those longer paddling trips and muscle tissue to put some “umph” in your strokes.

HAVE PADDLE, WILL TRAVEL. I live on the Snohomish/Skagit County line, deep in the mountains. I am so lucky because within minutes I can be floating on any number of beautiful mountain lakes or on the Puget Sound. One of my favorite saltwater spots is the north end of Camano Island. I can conduct my lessons on any number of waterways between Seattle and Bellingham. I will come to you! Or I can offer suggestions of where we can rendezvous that will be convenient and appropriate for both of us.
